Gestalt Language Processing

Gestalt Language Processing (GLP) is a type of language development we often see is autistic children and children with delayed language skills. Children who learn to communicate this way typical will repeat words or phrases other people have said or they have heard from tv shows, using these to express their wants, needs and emotions with others. We often have to act as detectives when working with children who are learning this way as what they say often does not represent what they actually mean. Children who are learning language in this way require a different approach to assessment and intervention to children who learn language from single words and build sentences. The approach is based on the Natural Language Acquisition Framework.
